(ALLENTOWN, PA) – The Allentown Rescue Mission has been selected to participate in this year’s “Philling the Need” Food Drive, one of ten collection drives hosted by the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and the IronPigs Charities. The Allentown Rescue Mission will collect canned and boxed non-perishable food items to feed the hundreds of homeless men who need their services annually when the IronPigs take on the Buffalo Bisons, Saturday, May 27th, 6:35 p.m., at Coca-Cola Park.
Donation stations will be set up at both the East and West gates located at the front of the ballpark. Food items can be dropped off when the gates open until the end of the second inning.
Below is a list of urgently needed items to provide the men with balanced meals:
- Bottled Water
- Canned Collard Greens
- Canned Spinach
- Granola & Cereal Bars
- Grocery Store Gift Cards
- Powdered Drink Mixes
- Powdered Eggs
- Single Serve Beverages
- Single Serve Chips
Grocery store gift cards enable the Mission to purchase nutritious, perishable food, like fresh fruits and vegetables, for its guests.

The Allentown Rescue Mission, a 501c3, 123 bed non-profit homeless shelter has been providing shelter for homeless men since 1900. In addition to emergency shelter services (365 days a year), the Allentown Rescue Mission offers a residential life skills program, and transitional employment on the Clean Team Workforce that’s available for hire to the community. The Clean Team Workforce pays the men above PA state minimum wage– helping them save a nest egg to transition back into the community. In a typical year, the Allentown Rescue Mission provides shelter services for over 946 men per year, and serves over 42,000 meals a year to men in need.
