It’s been a month or two, but we’ve been in the thick of early farm season – seeding and planting and more seeding and more planting!
Main Season Hours:
Crooked Row Farm
3245 PA-309, Orefield, PA 18069
Monday – Noon-4pm
Tuesdays-Fridays – 10am-5pm
Saturdays-Sundays 10am-3pm
Hopefully we’ve left the cold nights behind, because we finally have the plant sale underway! Greens, herbs, flowers and brassicas starts are down at the stand now, along with some of the bigger, early tomatoes. In another week or two, we’ll have the peppers, eggplants, tender herbs, and more tomatoes for your gardens! Same prices as last year – Singles are $3.50, packs at $5.50, and anything extra and special we’ll have will be marked accordingly. We’ve also got plenty of High Mowing organic seed packs for you, too.

Right now in the stand we’ve got a lot of spinach, some tunnel and early greens, some green garlic, and soon we’ll have some radishes and early field greens. Today we trellised the peas in the field and the tomatoes in the tunnel. We’ve got broccoli, cauliflower, beets and carrots in the ground, and by the end of May we should be eating well.

We’ve picked up some new vendors since the last email – Dove Song Goat Dairy out of Berks County has been bringing us some amazing goat cheese and kefir, and Wild for Salmon has widened my horizons with all sorts of different salmon, their incredible tuna medallions, and some really tasty black cod. Next week, we’re trying the halibut! Valley Milkhouse has the Honey Bell back in production, along with their lineup of awesome cheese, and we’re even stocking some organic peanut butter and cinnamon peanut butter from The Big Red Barn!

We’ve got plenty of eggs, all sorts of other proteins (including a full restock of bison burgers from our first bison), two kinds of Fresh Tofu, and a bunch of ferments. Warm Sugar currently delivers every other week, and Daily Loaf is amping up for the full season.
Currently, I’m in need of some freezer space. We’re running a frozen bread and dairy sale – $2.00 off frozen loaves and frozen milk and cheese until we’re cleaned out! We use frozen milk for baking and yogurt making and frozen cheese for quiche and cooking, in case you need some inspiration. 😉
Events!
We have every First Friday booked with Cellar Beast Winehouse (Noon-5pm) and Gauker Farms (3pm-5pm), along with Laura from Warm Sugar when she can make it over with extra treats.
On May 7th, we’ll be back in Bethlehem for the Spring Wicked Plant Festival from 10am-3pm over in Bethlehem. On May 13th, we’ll be at Circle of Seasons Charter School for their Mayfaire event from 10am-3:30pm.
The CSA is going to start either the first week of June or the last week of May – if you’d like to sign up, you still can. I’ve attached the form via PDF at the end of this email. We will be offering one offsite pickup – at our friends’ private residence on Church Street in Bethlehem. Pick-up days are Tuesday.
New Adventures!
In other fun news, we’ve been making more herbal products! We’re going to trick out some new production space, and we’re creating some new, tasty product lines. We’ve got the first of the infused oils out in the world, with some flavored vinegars to follow. After that, we’ll be digging into salad dressings and mustards.
In the body care world, we’ve dipped our toes in the amazing world of soaps. We are infusing with our dyeing flowers for color, our teas and essences for scent, and our botanicals for texture. I’m so pleased with what we’ve created so far, and we are excited to explore more in this realm (we’re currently using organic vegan oils, but we will also be learning how to create some products with our own bison tallow and Dove Song’s amazing goat milk this season).
As for the back room – well, it’s had a full makeover. We’ve got everything up on the walls now, with open space for some forthcoming workshops and pop-ups. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for some more about that. By October, we’ll have it revamped for the cooler season as a proper Holiday Market, with some extra vendors and artists for a successful, local shopping experience for all your gift-giving needs.
I feel like all of these pieces are finally coming together here at Crooked Row, and I’m so excited and grateful to have you with us on this local food journey. Thank you.
All The Best,
Liz
