Upper Macungie Township and Amazon Fulfillment lead support for local parks and trails with a 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk at Lone Lane Park in November
Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania – The Upper Macungie Township Recreation Board and the 5K Committee have been busy over the past several months planning and coordinating the Upper Macungie Run/Walk for Parks, a 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk, scheduled to start at Lone Lane Park (30 Lone Lane, Allentown, PA 18106) on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 10:00 am.
The planning began on the heels of the successful event in November 2013 which raised over $4,000 for park and recreation efforts in the Township, and in particular for the dog park at the Route 100 Park. The inaugural event in 2011 was held after Township Supervisors and Recreation Board members discussed ways to fulfill a reported need for “foot powered” activities. This need was based on the results of a Township recreation survey which ranked walking and running activities as a high priority.
This year will mark the fourth year for the event. This Run/Walk for Parks event will not only fulfill this basic desire for walking and running activities, but will also welcome people outside and into their local parks, while helping participants, both child and adult, stay healthy.
Amazon Fulfillment, which operates a facility in the Township, has signed on as the Presenting Sponsor of the event. Several additional sponsors have also been identified and are noted on the event website and other social media outlets.
Chuck Thomas, a member of the Recreation Board, commented, “The fall season is a great time of the year to enjoy a few hours outside with your family, friends and neighbors, while helping a great cause – your local parks.” The efforts to support the park system in the Township will be aided by the Friends of Upper Macungie Township Parks and Recreation, Inc. who will be accepting the donations and sponsorships. All proceeds from the event will directly benefit park and recreation efforts in the Township. The money raised this year will be allocated to improving the Township trail system.
What a great way to get outside, get some exercise, have some fun, and help your parks all at the same time.
