Supreme Court ruling “A win for voters and for fair and free elections”

Today, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania upheld Pennsylvania’s mail-in voting law, allowing all voters to cast their ballot by mail. The decision overturned a previous Commonwealth Court ruling that found Act 77 to be in violation of the state constitution.

Make the Road Pennsylvania released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court ruling:

Said Diana Robinson, Civic Engagement Director for Make the Road Pennsylvania:

“Today’s Supreme Court ruling upholding Pennsylvanians’ ability to vote by mail is a win for voters and for free and fair elections. We know that voting by mail is safe, secure, and the Supreme Court’s decision affirms Pennsylvanians’ right to do so.

“Mail-in voting is an important and necessary piece to securing our elections and access to the ballot box, and to overcoming the barriers that make it harder for Black, brown, immigrant, non-English speaking, and young voters to exercise their right to vote.

“We have seen an alarming pattern of voter suppression in Pennsylvania the past few years. So the ability to fill out a ballot on your own time in the convenience of your own home, with the ability to research candidates at your own pace truly enables every eligible voter in Pennsylvania to make the best decision for themselves and their community.“
