Lehigh and Northampton County – Girls on the Run Lehigh Valley (GOTRLV) is proud to announce its continued partnership with DeSales University to host the fall GOTR 5K presented by St. Luke’s University Health Network (SLUHN). The season-ending 5K celebration will be held on Saturday, December 4th on the campus of DeSales University in Center Valley. Over 500 girls in 3rd-8th grade from across the Lehigh Valley and their “Running Buddies” will run, skip, jump, or walk their way through the DeSales campus to cross the finish line and celebrate their individual accomplishments. The GOTR 5K is the culmination of the GOTR curriculum, which enables the girls to achieve their fullest potential through confidence and joy in running!

The 2021 event is the first large, in-person 5K event that GOTRLV has been able to host since the fall of 2019 due to the pandemic. It is the fourth 5K that DeSales will host for the GOTR organization. Both GOTRLV Staff and DeSales’ very own business majors have carefully planned the event with 17 students collaborating as teams for the senior class business capstone projects. There are an additional 50 student volunteers participating through the Office of Community Service and Advocacy.

The teams have been planning and managing different aspects of the event since early October and contributing countless hours to make the event a success. The group of students selected the theme “shining star” to represent every girl’s confidence and star power! The GOTR program is well aligned with DeSales University’s mission of “being who you are and being that well”.

Frank Ford, President of St. Luke’s Sacred Heart Campus, comments that “St. Luke’s is proud to sponsor the GOTR 5K and is grateful for all the support given by DeSales staff and students to make the event happen.” The run will start at 9:30am near the DeSales Soccer stadium.
