The Allentown Rescue Mission Celebrates the Global Generosity Movement Giving Tuesday on November 30, 2021, in Support of Homeless Men

(Allentown, PA)— This Giving Tuesday, the Allentown Rescue Mission is responding to the needs of homeless men throughout the Greater Lehigh Valley with its Giving Tuesday campaign.

Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing people, and organizations’ power to transform their communities and the world. Giving Tuesday will kick off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back on November 30, 2021, and throughout the year.

The Allentown Rescue Mission strives to unite its community to not only shelter homeless men, but provide them with a path towards self-sufficiency. The Emergency Shelter caters to their immediate needs: shelter, food, showers, clean clothes, and understanding. Then, the Transformation Program offers the men one-on-one guidance, job and life skills, and a plan to get back on their feet. Upon successful completion of the program, the men may begin working on the Clean Team Workforce.

On the Clean Team Workforce, the men earn money, gain work experience, and can connect with a community employer for permanent work. Once the men save enough money for an apartment and get a permanent job, they finish their transition back to independence. Anyone can help the Allentown Rescue Mission rescue, rehabilitate, and restore homeless men by donating this Giving Tuesday.

People demonstrate generosity in many ways on Giving Tuesday. Whether it’s helping a neighbor or stranger, showing up for people in need, or giving to important causes, every act of generosity counts. Giving Tuesday has raised billions of dollars for critical causes worldwide and gets 21 billion impressions on social media from people and organizations speaking up for the causes that matter to them and encouraging others to get involved.

The Allentown Rescue Mission, a 501c3, 123 bed non-profit homeless shelter has been providing shelter for homeless men since 1900. In addition to emergency shelter services (365 days a year), the Mission offers a residential life skills program, and transitional employment on the Clean Team that’s available for hire to the community. The Clean Team pays the men above PA state minimum – helping them save a nest egg to transition back into the community. The Mission provides shelter services for over 946 men per year, and serves over 42,000 meals a year to men in need.
