Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for The Kindness Project
The Kindness Project purchased property and land in early 2021. The building was totally renovated in order to expand the mission and services offered to children in foster care. The new home of The Kindness Project opened late summer 2021. To date they have served over 750 children in foster care.
Founded in 2018, The Kindness Project is a 100% donation-based, volunteer-run non-profit organization created to provide much-needed support to the foster care community throughout the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas by supplying essential items free of charge to children in foster care. They have a two-acre property with a physical shop called “The Kindness Exchange” located in Emmaus, PA.
Their goal as a ‘foster closet’ is to provide, at no cost, clothing, shoes, car seats, diapers, beds, baby equipment, hygiene items, school supplies, toys, books, and any other necessity a family needs so they can consider taking a child of any age into their home or to welcome a group of siblings when necessary, even if they only planned to foster one child.
As they grow and serve, they continue to see gaps in the support to some of their most vulnerable children. Therefore, they are extending their free services to include academic tutoring, music, and art lessons. They hope to one day raise enough funds to provide scholarships to children interested in enrichment camps, sports experiences, and even college!
Their mission is to enable the foster families to provide for the most basic needs of the child(ren) quickly and help ease the transition of the child(ren) into their new foster home. The more they can alleviate the financial stresses for the foster families, the more love and emotional support they can provide to the children in their care during a very traumatic time. They are very thankful to all of their community partners and donors who allow them to serve these very special families and children!
Executive Vice President of Affiliated Chambers Jessica O’Donnell shares the joy “We are thrilled to see The Kindness Project growing and expanding into a new home. They have served so many children and families in the area and we hope through this ribbon cutting we are able to get the word out so they continue to gain support and people learn about their services as well.”
