Event includes Barking Lot, Pet Costume Contest, Doghouse Row, Cocktails, Shopping & Doggie Dash
Bethlehem, PA (March 31, 2021) – It’s a dog’s life as people and pets are invited to experience a brand new event in Historic Downtown Bethlehem this spring – Tails & Sales. While furry friends are always welcome downtown, the April 17 event is to let your dog have its day.
The Barking Lot
Your new best friend may just be waiting for you at The Barking Lot. Anything is pawsible. The Center for Animal Health and Welfare will be introducing rescue pets looking for a new leash on life to the community at the 1750 Smithy (across from Musselman Jewelers). There will also be vendors in the Barking Lot including Melmo’s Organic Dog Treats and Mishka Vodka. Plus, you’ll get to check out the Bethlehem Mounted Police and their horses.
Doghouse Row Art Contest
Show off your crafty side in a creative contest to decorate the best cutout puppy (14” tall) or dog house (24”). One lucky dog will win a $100 Downtown Bethlehem gift certificate. The creations will be displayed on “Doghouse Row” during Tails & Sales. That’s the pathway that leads from the 1750 Smithy, down to the Colonial Industrial Quarter. Visitors will vote for their favorites by scanning a QR code on the display.
“These opportunities to feature local artwork have been so well received. Visitors loved our fall Scarecrow decorating contest and last winter’s Gingerbread Friend decorating so much that we knew we had to develop a Spring art contest. It’s the leash we could do,” said Downtown Bethlehem Association (DBA) Manager Tammy Wendling.
Anyone interested in participating must order their cutout online and pick it up at the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce office by March 29. Puppy cutouts cost $15 and doghouses are $25.
See video of the cutouts being made here.
Canine Costume Contest
Do you have the best-dressed pet in Bethlehem? Be the puparazzi and upload pics of your furry fashions to the Tails & Sales web page for a chance to win the Canine Costume Contest. Your friends and family can vote for your pet through April 14. The DBA will invite the top five best dressed pups to a live awards ceremony outside of Aardvark Sports shop at 11am on April 17.
Cocktail Trail (This one’s for the humans)
Humans who want a little hair of the dog can fetch cocktails from 12 different locations along the Cocktail To-Go Trail sponsored by Mishka Vodka. Pups getting thirsty? There will be water stations located throughout the downtown for their sipping pleasure. Cocktail Trail passports include a complimentary shopping pass ($10 value) for you to enjoy shopping discounts all over town. Cocktail Trail passes are $45. Tickets are extremely limited so order yours online in advance.
Shopping Pass
Get over $1,000 in savings with your Tails & Sales shopping pass. For just $10, you’ll get a passport that gives you exclusive discounts at Historic Downtown Bethlehem businesses. You can shop ‘til your dogs start barking. You can pick up your shopping pass at the Downtown Bethlehem Association office (74 W Broad Street, Suite 240) on April 17 from 11am to 4pm.
Vark & Bark Doggie Dash
This is a one-mile virtual run. Participants will pick up their Doggie Bag (with t-shirt, matching bandana and doggie treats) at Aardvark Sports Shop between April 10 and April 16. On April 17, they’ll hop on Zoom for a virtual run in a course they design at home. It’s the perfect pupportunity to show what your dog can do. Participants should register online. The fee is $20. Event sponsor Working Dog Press is donating collapsible dog bowls and treats to all Vark & Bark Virtual Doggie Dash participants.
