Lehigh Valley Health Network will sponsor free grocery delivery from Radish Republic for the week of March 14-21 to raise awareness of National Colorectal Cancer Month(March). LVHN and Radish Republic’s partnership is an effort in preventative healthcare. The free delivery area extends to anywhere in the Lehigh Valley.
Colon cancer is the third most common type of colon cancer in the United States among men and women. There is strong evidence that making diet and exercise adjustments can significantly reduce your chances of getting colon cancer.
Diets that include lots of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains have been linked with a decreased risk of colon cancer. Eat less red meat and processed meats, which have been linked with an increased risk of colorectal cancer. Only one in ten people eat the recommended amount of vegetables. Vegetables should take up 2/3 of your plate at each meal. Fruit is an easy low calorie snack or dessert. Along with these diet changes, maintain a healthy weight and add exercise to your routine.
Below are the top seven recommendations of what to focus on when meal planning:
- non starchy vegetables
- fresh fruit
- fatty fish like wild caught tuna and salmon
- whole grains
- nuts and seeds
- legumes and beans
- white meat and eggs
While many people may feel comfortable ordering prepackaged and nonfood items online, buying produce online may not feel comfortable for some people. With the pandemic, they may not consume as much produce if they can’t physically get to the grocery store leading to an increase risk for health problems. The staff at Radish Republic carefully select the produce for each order and the small size of the store allows greater quality control in the produce section. Any produce received that is low quality can be refunded.
Radish Republic is located in the ArtsWalk of downtown Allentown at 21. N 7th Street, Allentown, PA 18101. It is a premier urban grocery store specializing in local food from farms and small businesses in the Lehigh Valley and beyond. Orders placed online are delivered the next day. Typically costing $7.99 per delivery, that fee is being waived through sponsorship from LVHN for the week of March 14th-21st. Order online at www.radishrepublic.com/online-store.
