Client creates new way to receive meals amidst social distance rules
Bethlehem, PA 8/18/2020 – A Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley client invented a new and creative way to deliver his meals while maintaining a safe distance under the COVID-19 pandemic.
The client — who lives on the third floor of an apartment building in Lehigh County — decided to tie a bucket to a rope and drop it over his balcony. The volunteers can simply place his meal inside the bucket and the client pulls it up.
The volunteer is able to check that the client is safe and doing well while maintaining a safe distance.
About Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley
Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley improves the health, well-being and independence of homebound seniors and adults with disabilities by providing nutritious, medically-tailored, home-delivered meals. The organization was created this past fall when two previous organizations merged: Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County and Meals on Wheels of Northampton County. The combined organization expects to serve nearly 460,000 hot and cold meals to 2,600 people living in the Greater Lehigh Valley.
