Indie Rockers The National Kick Off Musikfest’s 37th Year on July 31

Bethlehem, PA–GRAMMY award-winning Indie act The National will rock Musikfest when it takes to the Wind Creek Steel Stage July 31, 7 p.m. Tickets for the show are $34-$69 and go on sale starting today to ArtsQuest Members, and Feb. 21, 10 a.m., to the public at www.musikfest.org and 610-332-3378. The National consists of Matt Berninger (vocals) fronting two pairs of brothers – Aaron (guitar, bass, piano) and Bryce Dessner (guitar, piano) – and Scott (bass, guitar) and Bryan Devendorf (drums). Since the release of its self-titled debut album The National in 2001, the band has come far, with eight albums including its latest release, I Am Easy to Find. Over its 16-year career, the group has sold more than 1.7 million albums worldwide and established itself as a mainstay of arenas and festivals with sold-out performances around the world.  

The National has received several awards and nominations for its work including a GRAMMY for Best Alternative Music Album for 2017’s Sleep Well Beast. Four of its albums were included in the 2013 NME 500 greatest albums of all time, while NME and Pitchfork Media both dubbed the group’s 2005 album Alligator as a top album of the 2000s.

Named the top Music Festival in North America by USA TODAY’s 10Best, Musikfest features more than 500 performances – the vast majority free to attend – on 17 stages throughout Bethlehem over 10 days. Other acts announced for Musikfest include Shinedown Aug. 4, Willie Nelson Aug. 5, Poison Aug. 7 and Darius Rucker Aug. 8. Dates for the 37th edition of the festival are July 31-Aug. 9.
