(Southeastern Pennsylvania) Berks County Wine Trail is sharing the warmth to ward off winter’s cold. Our Winter Warmer Wine Tasting Weekend is coming, January 18 and 19, 2020. Leave winter at the doorstep of our cozy winery locations and enjoy featured wines together with samples of hot soups, heavenly desserts, and other comfort-inspired pairings, guaranteed to melt Winter’s chill like a warm and friendly hug.
Bundle up and take a self-guided tour of the frosty Berks County area winter landscapes from noon until 5:00 both days. Winter Warmers is a free sampling event; no reservations or tickets needed for the featured pairing at each winery. Note, most wineries charge a tasting fee for their full wine list.
Here’s a preview of what our wineries have planned:
Setter Ridge, Greenwich Township – Warm up from the inside with a special cocktail of Setter Ridge’s 2016 Syrah spiked with Xplorer Spirits Chocolate Bourbon Liquor. Pair that with Spicy Mexican Hot Chocolate Fudge, an amazing combination of spicy and sweet, for an unbeatable treat!
Deerfoot Winery, Maidencreek Township – There’s nothing like wine and a hot tasty soup to warm you on a cold January day! Deerfoot will pair their new 2018 Country Rose, a light Cabernet Franc wine, with Pumpkin Coriander soup, gently seasoned with spices sure to ward off winter’s chill.
Stoudt’s Winery, Shartlesville – Welcome back a customer favorite from orchard country at Stoudt’s Winery! Warm Appalachian Spice Wine will be paired with a delicious old-fashioned Apple Crisp of lightly sweetened, warmly-spiced apples finished with a crisp, sugary topping.
Manatawny Creek Winery, Amity Township – Soleil, a blend of Seyval Blanc and Cayuga white wines, is like a taste of sunshine, even in the middle of winter! Enjoy this refreshing “drink with everything” wine with a richly delicious Mac & Cheese dish topped with a Soleil mushroom sauce.
Weathered, Lynn Township, Lehigh County – Your tour won’t be complete without the ultimate cold-weather comfort food at Weathered! Enjoy warm, creamy, potato-filled Pierogies topped with caramelized onions and served alongside Weathered’s Chardonnay. The toasty nuttiness of the wine perfectly echoes the buttery flavor of the Pierogies for a tasting experience you won’t want to miss.
KOG Hill Winery, Morgantown – The warmth of a bowl of chili wraps you like a blanket on a cold winter day! Head to KOG Hill Winery for Southwest Turkey Chili paired with their 2018 Pinot Noir. This hearty south-of-the-border chili, made with turkey, pinto and white beans, and packed with flavors of smoky cumin and spice, is the perfect companion to the smooth, light-bodied fruitiness of the Pinot Noir.
Stone Barn Cellars Winery, Spring City, Montgomery County – When winter’s chilliness is in the air, you won’t find anything more comforting than a hot bowl of soup. Loaded Potato Soup, with all the bacon, sour cream, cheese, and chopped tomatoes fixings, paired with 2018 Vidal Blanc white wine is a fan favorite at Stone Barn Cellars. This crisp and citrus-y wine is an excellent contrast with the creamy, salty soup. Soup is gluten free and a vegetarian option will also be available.
Ridgewood Winery, Cumru Township – Save room for dessert at Ridgewood Winery. Olde Orchard wine, warmed with Hot Butter Rum spices and splashed over ice cream, is the perfect blend of sweetness, spice, tart apple flavors, and creamy vanilla!
Stonekeep Meadery, Fleetwood – Stonekeep will serve a lusciously delicious butternut squash bisque made with a hint of sweetness from Stonekeep’s Traditional mead. This will be paired with our Gewurztraminer, a dry, crisp white wine or choose Cayuga for a sweeter pairing.
Long Trout Winery, West Brunswick Township, Schuylkill County – Bacon Cheeseburger Tots are like a cheeseburger and fries, without the drive-thru! You’ll love this warm and satisfying treat, served with Afternoon Delight, Long Trout’s crisp Pinot Gris with its hint-of-lemon freshness. Then before you leave, take a sip of sinfully rich, deliciously adult red wine hot chocolate to make sure you’re warm on the inside before heading back out into the cold.
Calvaresi Winery, Bernville – There’s something special about the delicious, cozy feeling you get from warm spiced wine. The aromas and flavor of citrus and spices in Calvaresi’s Winter Spice are guaranteed to warm you from the inside out. You’ll also want to taste Apple Pie Sangria, like homemade apple pie in a glass!
