EASTON GARLIC FEST RETURNS TO CENTRE SQUARE FOR THE STINKIEST FESTIVAL OF THE YEAR

More than 90 vendors, three stages of live music, cooking demos, and more.

EASTON, PA – September 24, 2019 – The odor wafting out of downtown Easton’s Centre Square in less than two weeks will be matched by the energy and excitement of garlic lovers when they come to town for the 16th Annual Easton Garlic Fest.

A family-friendly event, it is free to attend on Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6 from 10 am – 6 pm both days, rain or shine. Highlights include:

  • More than 90 vendors including merchandise and crafters, prepared foods, packaged foods, garlic vendors, and service providers. See the full vendor list here: http://eastongarlicfest.com/vendors/
  • NEW Sizzlin’ HOT Latin Quarter (both days) – Located on Northampton Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets. Featuring Hispanic and Latino food vendors; the Livin’ in the Rhythm Drum Circle with more than 20 drums; DJ Nino and AP el Inquieto, who performs Reggaeton music; Colombian musician and singer Omaira; and the Swing Combo Salsa and Rio Bossa bands.
  • Mayors’ Cook-Off (Sunday at 3 pm) – Easton Mayor Sal Panto will partner with Easton Garlic Fest Headline Chef Ricky Heinrichs, Executive Chef of Pearly Baker’s. They will take on Hellertown Mayor David Heintzelman and Phillipsburg Mayor Stephen Ellis along with their partner chefs.
  • Hometown Heroes Cook-Off (Sunday at 1 pm) – City of Easton Police vs. City of Easton Fire Dept. vs. Easton EMS
  • Three stages of free live music (both days) – The School of Rock Stage at Northampton & 4th Streets; the Sizzlin’ HOT Latin Music Stage at Northampton & S. 2nd Streets; and the Stinkin’ Beer Tent Stage at S. 3rd & Ferry Streets.   • Big Stinkin’ Wheel of Cheese Tasting (both days) – $12 – This tasting starts with a wheel of Reggiano Parmesan cheese which chefs light on fire and roll pasta and garlic in the melted cheese. Cheese wheel and pasta are provided by sponsor Vicidomini USA.
  • Gastric Garlic People’s Choice Contest – $10 (tickets at the door only)

o   Noon -2:30 pm on Saturday; located in the Pungent Plaza

o   400 people will sample and judge the best garlic dish created by chefs from local restaurants. Participants determine which chef will take home the coveted garlic bulb winner’s plaque.

  • Dangerous Desserts People’s Choice Contest – $8 (tickets at the door only)

o   Noon – 2:30 pm on Sunday; located in the Pungent Plaza

o   Be one of 200 people to sample and judge the best garlic dessert created by chefs from local restaurants. Participants determine which chef creates the best dish.

  • Farm-to-Market Mystery Basket Competition – Saturday at 2:30 pm at the Farm-to-Market Stage

o   EGF Headline Chef Ricky Heinrichs, Executive Chef at Pearly Baker’s Alehouse, and four-time winner of this competition, will go up against Chef Esteban Morales of Air Products.

o   Each chef will receive an identical mystery basket chosen by Easton Farmers’ Market Manager Megan McBride, filled with locally sourced food.

o   They will have 30 minutes to create a garlicky meal using only those ingredients in this judged competition.

  • Garlic Growers Tasting Competition sponsored by Easton Farmers’ Market – Saturday at 11 am
  • The Easton Farmers’ Market – (Saturday only) temporarily relocated to Northampton Street in front of the Easton Public Market.
  • Live cooking demos by chefs from Shoprite, Aman’s Indian Restaurant, Stoke, and Easton Public Market on the Stinkin’ Culinary Stage (both days).
  • Beer Tent sponsored by The Alfero Company and hosted by 3rd & Ferry Fish Market – featuring a selection of beer and also Bloody Mary, mule, punch, and sangria options. Festivalgoers can play games like a 3-point basketball challenge, football bowling, quoits, corn hole, and a giant Jenga next to the beer tent.
  • Little Stinkers Row at N. 3rd & Church Streets – pony rides, moon bounce, and other activities.

o   11 am both days – Kids sign up for a chance to participate in the Culinary Kids Cooking Contest, which starts at 1 pm. Five names are selected to compete.

o   11 am Saturday – Easton Arts Academy Elementary Charter School 4th & 5th grades ensemble performance

o   2 pm Saturday – Lehigh Valley Martial Arts School demonstration

o   11 am Sunday – Broadway Rhythms Dance Review performance
