FREE Family Friendly Edutainment for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Makers in a Steampunk Theme
Lehigh Valley PA – The first annual PA S.T.E.A.M Fest will promote programs and interests in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Makers fields for families, digital educators, businesses, institutes, and everyone else interested in today’s modern technology and the industrial evolution of Steampunk! This event is FREE to the public, but free downloadable tickets are required to attend the workshops, lesson seminars, educational panels, cosplay contest, and artists and author signings. The PA STEAM Fest is hosted by ArtsQuest in partnership with WeDiscoverGeeks to provide STEAM Education, Entertainment, and Creative Inspirations in a Steampunk theme.
“I’ve been in the STEAM Education and Video Game career for over 20 years and I have always found STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) to be intimidating.” said WeDiscoverGeeks Owner and STEAM Fest Founder, Kat Mahoney, “But then we moved from STEM to STEAM education to include Art, which simply made sense because Art is a valuable part of STEM careers. However, I wanted STEAM to focus more on Art & Makers because math is already in all those fields whether we want to accept that or not, so there was no need to include math in there and exclude those who aren’t comfortable with math.”
Mrs. Mahoney explains that the PA STEAM Fest has a Steampunk theme because Steampunk has a highly STEAM-based background filled with science, technology, engineering, art and makers. “Think of movies like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Van Helsing, and the kid’s movie Nine. Those are all Steampunk themed entertainment.” said Mahoney, “Plus, Steampunk is just plain creatively awesome!”
Some featured performers and speakers include cosplay by Steampunked Batman & Robin, music by Metamorph, dance performances by the Coveilance Dance Project, a life-sized Steampunk Pirate Ship, and book signings by Rube Goldberg. Other education and entertainment includes mystery theater actors, magicians, video game lessons, artists, authors, maker workshops, and a Cosplay Contest.
The PA STEAM Fest 2019 event will take place at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks on August 31, 2019 from 10am-5pm . Sponsors include Moravian Academy and INSPIRE. Over 3000 tickets have currently been downloaded. Visit www.pasteamfest.com for more information and to view the complete Program Guide.
