BETHLEHEM, PA – The first opportunity is a Dental Assisting Program, with classes Monday – Thursday, June 3 – July 16, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Fowler Family Southside Center. No classes will be held on July 4. This program features hands-on instruction and clinical observation for participants to learn chair side dental assistance. Course topics include the preparation of instruments, materials and equipment; client assessment and communication; and client preparation for his/her appointment. All program requirements must be completed by Wednesday, May 23, and a mandatory information session will be held on Wednesday, May 29, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (participants must be registered for the course to attend). The next opportunity is an Emergency Medical Technician Program (EMT). This course will be held Tuesday – Thursday, June 4 – August 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on NCC’s Pocono campus, or Monday – Thursday, June 3 – July 31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fowler Family Southside Center. This intermediate-level, skills-oriented course involves extensive hands-on training for emergency services personnel. Training includes lifting and moving patients, incident management, and more. All program requirements must be completed by Thursday, May 30. The course fee is $1,650, which includes textbook, online learning access code, uniforms, CPR pocket mask, and malpractice insurance. The fee does not include the NREMT certification exam fee. Funding may be available to Northampton County Emergency responders, along with optional emergency vehicle driver training. NCC’s Nurse Aid Program (CNA) is an intensive 120-hour course that consists of lectures, skill labs and clinical education to prepare participants with the skills needed to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Competency Examination (NNAAP). The program is ideal for entry into the growing healthcare industry or to satisfy requirements towards an advanced degree. This program will run June 10 – July 2 and August 7 – August 29 at the Fowler Family Southside Center. The program fee is $1,499. All requirements for participation must be completed by May 28 for the June session and by July 24 for the August session. Participants must be Pennsylvania residents, at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED to enroll. The Trauma Informed Care Certificate is NCC’s new certificate program which enables participants to develop the knowledge and skills to understand the impacts of trauma on individuals, and how to best support trauma survivors when engaging with them in a professional capacity. Teachers, human service workers, first responders, healthcare workers, social workers, and day care workers will benefit from this series. This self-paced 10-week virtual program will run June 3 – August 11, and participants must successfully complete all five modules to obtain the certificate. The program fee is $279. Lastly, NCC is pleased to offer a new community education course in partnership with the Lehigh Valley Zoo: Introduction to Zoo & Wildlife Enrichment. This course will be held on June 5 and June 12 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Penn Hall on NCC’s Bethlehem campus, followed by a lab at the Lehigh Valley Zoo from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. This unique program introduces environmental, social, and behavioral enrichment in zoo and wildlife centers and why it is necessary for captive species’ health and well-being. Topics will include animal behavior, animal welfare, zoo conservation and public education.
