This coming month offers special adventures, including: flying squirrels, an historic tannery hike, an owl painting party and the annual Great Backyard Bird Count Party (joint with the LV Audubon Society)!


February 3

Wildlands Conservancy – Flying Squirrels @ Thomas Darling Preserve – 9:00 am – 11:00 am at Thomas Darling Preserve, PA-940 Entrance, 606 PA-940, Pocono Lake, 18347. Wildlands Conservancy has flying squirrel nest boxes throughout the preserve; let’s explore this unique habitat and check the nest boxes for flying squirrels. Wildlands Conservancy – Get Out! for Wellness: D&L Lehigh Tannery – 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at D&L Lehigh Tannery, 501 Main St. White Haven, PA 18661. In the 1860s the US’s 2nd largest tannery operated in Lehigh Tannery. Hike to one of the tallest locks, see remains of the Tannery, and then on to White Haven for the option of lunch. Questions? Wildlands Conservancy – Pre-K Pathfinders: Mammalogy, Trexler Nature Preserve – 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Trexler Environmental Center, 4935 Orchard Rd., Schnecksville, PA 18078. PreK pathfinders is a series of programs for 3-5 year olds and their grown-ups. Enjoy visits from our furry animal ambassadors to help us understand what makes a mammal unique, then venture outdoors to find evidence of their wild relatives. Program questions? Wildlands Conservancy – Owl Paint and Sip – 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary, 3701 Orchid Place, Emmaus, PA 18049. Join us for a paint and sip where we’ll enjoy hot cocoa and paint an owl! An eastern screech owl will be our muse. For 16+; bring a friend! Questions? Wildlands Conservancy – Great Backyard Bird Count Party – 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary, Trexler Building, 3701 Orchid Place, Emmaus, PA 18049. Join the Lehigh Valley Audubon Society and Wildlands Conservancy at our joint GBBC party as we count/record birds & enjoy themed snacks, games and puzzles. Stay as long as you like. Wildlands Conservancy – Get Out! for Wellness: Bushkill Creek & Pizza – 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Mill Race Park, 2001 Newlins Mill Road, Easton, PA 18045. We’ll hike part of the Two Rivers Trailway (part of the former Northern & Eastern Railroad line) and can opt for pizza midway. Hike is accessible and appropriate for all ages.
