EMMAUS, PA- Dec. 19,2023- Purr Haus, the Lehigh Valley’s only cat-themed boutique and adoption showcase, will celebrate everyone’s favorite fake holiday, Festivus, with a Feats of Strength contest to collect cat litter and food for local rescue organization Ruff Life Rescue and Rehabilitation.
“As any cat owner knows, stocking up on cat litter is a back breaking chore. Now, imagine how much litter cat rescue volunteers lift each week,” said Purr Haus owner Laurie Mason Schroeder. “We’re hoping to lessen the load for our volunteers while also allowing our customers to show off their muscles in a fun event.”
Celebrated on December 23, Festivuscommemorates a holiday episode of the television comedy, Seinfeld. In 1997, the popular television comedy brought Festivus to the masses when Frank Costanza (played by Jerry Stiller) explains he invented the holiday in response to the commercialism of Christmas. Its slogan is “A Festivus for the rest of us.”
Festivus traditions include the “airing of grievances,” the erection of an unadorned aluminum Festivus Pole, and of course, the “feats of strength.”
While adoptable kittens from Ruff Life Rescue cheer them on, customers will be asked to hoist their donations of cat litter and food beside the Festivus Pole. Each contestant will earn a chance at winning a gift basket and all the litter and food will go to Ruff Life.
The event runs from 11am til 2pm on Sat. Dec. 23, with the winner chosen by the end of the day.
Purr Haus is located at 27 S. 7th Street, Emmaus, across from the CVS drive thru. Photos and videos are encouraged. More information can be found on the Purr Haus
