BETHLEHEM, PA – Northampton Community College (NCC) has several opportunities this month to obtain popular health and safety certifications or learn new skills with your family. All courses are being held at the Fowler Family Southside Center located at 511 E. Third St. in Bethlehem.
NCC will be offering its Basic Life Support Core Instructor Course on June 16, from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The course provides a foundation for teaching and facilitating American Heart Association (AHA) courses in various areas of specialization. Certified by the AHA, those who complete the training will receive a two-year certification. The class includes the use of manikins to provide hands-on instruction, visual aids and feedback, resulting in a more confident level of expertise. To learn more and to register, visit northampton.edu/cpr. For questions, please email Natalia Gomez at ngomez@northampton.edu.
Additionally, NCC will be providing two certification options for those seeking valuable, industry-recognized health and safety training. The OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Outreach Program is intended to be an orientation to occupational safety and health for entry-level industry workers. The training will teach participants how to recognize and prevent hazards and safety issues on a general industry site. The program runs June 19 – 20, from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. The OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Outreach Program gives a more in-depth overview for participants with select safety responsibility through broad awareness on recognizing and preventing hazards. The training also emphasizes hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention on a general industry site. This program runs June 19 – 22, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Both programs are eligible for reimbursement through WEDnetPA. To register for either course, visit northampton.edu/safety. For questions, please email safety@northampton.edu or call 610-332-6596.
Finally, NCC’s Fab Lab is hosting its summer Family Fun Fridays beginning June 16 for those looking to kick off their weekend with something different. Work together with your family to complete projects and learn new techniques in the areas of instrument building, electronics and plastics! A child, age 11-15, can attend for free with a paid adult registration. Classes include Intro to Electronic Soldering (June 16), Build a Digital Clock (June 16), Build a Racing Robot (June 23), Family Hand Casting (June 23), Build a 3D Printer (June 30), and Bento Box Ukulele (June 30).
