High School Students are Given the Opportunity to Showcase Their Musical Talents for a Chance to Perform at Plaza Tropical
Musikfest has been held by ArtsQuest each August since 1984. What once started as a means of kickstarting the economy of a struggling town has since transformed into the largest non-gated free music festival in the nation, amid a thriving community. With the festival attracting a record crowd of over one million guests last year, the organization will be looking to further expand for this year’s 40th anniversary.
Musikfest isn’t the only ArtsQuest event that is celebrating an anniversary this year. Since 2013, Bethlehem Area School District has partnered with the non-profit organization to give students the opportunity to market both the event of Musikfest, schoolwide contests and even select bands to play at the upcoming event. Celebrating the program’s 10th anniversary, let’s see what Freedom High School’s Marketing Musikfest class has to offer.
As the program underwent its 10th anniversary preparations, Freedom’s Marketing Musikfest class prepared a full slate of performances to bring to the Plaza Tropical stage on Saturday, August 5. Starting off, the winner of the F.A.M.E. (Freedom’s Amazing Musicians and Entertainers) Contest, Alter Ego, will be performing live for the first time. Immediately following, the critically acclaimed surf rock group, Blue Wave Theory, returns to Musikfest. Finishing Freedom’s Day at the Fest, the indie rock band from Philadelphia, The Skating Party, will perform.
