In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Allentown Art Museum will host a day of free family activities inspired by the life and legacy of the prolific activist on Sunday, January 15. Highlighting Dr. King’s “How Long? Not Long” speech and select works in the Museum’s galleries,  there will be talks, live music by Maxamilly, storytelling by Evan Mosley, spoken word by Basement Poetry, song by Bekah Elaine, dance by students of the Fine Feather Foundation, and art making to inspire empathy, activism, and community building. SUNDAY, JANUARY 15

11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
• Storytelling by Evan Mosley, plus art making inspired by African American quilting traditions, in Rodale Classroom.
• Music by Maxamilly in the American Galleriesnoon-4 p.m.
• Activist-inspired poster making in Art Ways Interactive Family Gallery

1-1:30 p.m.
• Curator talk: AAM president and CEO Max Weintraub introduces the exhibition Dark Matter in Scheller Gallery

2-3 p.m.
Celebrating MLK through song and dance in Scheller Gallery:
• MLK speech excerpt reading by Bekah Elaine
• Song by Bekah Elaine
• Movement & dance by Evan Mosley
• Song by Maxamilly
• Choreographed dance by students of the Fine Feather Foundation

3-3:30 p.m.
• Curator talk: AAM vice president of curatorial affairs Elaine Mehalakes talks about artist Kara Walker in Butz Gallery

3:30-4:30 p.m.
• Spoken-word performance by Basement Poetry, with coffee, tea, and sweets, in the Community Gallery

Admission to the Museum on MLK Jr. Day and every day is FREE for all thanks to a generous legacy gift from the Century Fund and lead support from Lehigh Valley Health Network along with City Center Allentown and J. B. and Kathleen Reilly. Free parking in the Museum lot at Fifth and Linden Streets
