Allentown, PA – The Allentown Housing Authority (AHA) partnered with regional healthcare providers and services this week to bring free dental care, health services and neighborhood resources to seniors, disabled residents and neighbors.
The Community Health and Wellness Day, sponsored by Highmark Wholecare, included a visit from the United Concordia Dental Tour that is visiting locations across Pennsylvania this month, along with Neighborhood Health Centers of the Lehigh Valley, Weis Pharmacy, Silver Sneakers, Lehigh Valley Active Life, Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center and others.
The festival ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gross Towers on West Allen Street and 26 people received free dental cleanings and x-rays. More than 200 people from Gross Towers, Towers East and the surrounding neighborhood attended throughout the day, according to Cesar Núñez of Highmark Wholecare.
“Many of our residents are seniors or have a disability that prevents them from seeing their healthcare providers as often as they should,” said AHA Executive Director Dan Farrell. “We truly appreciate the cooperation and assistance we receive from our partners that allows us to host an event like this to help them all receive that care.”
Attendees were also able to receive COVID booster shots, talk to representatives about their own healthcare insurance, and find nutritional and lifestyle information that will improve their overall health and wellness.
The United Concordia Dental Tour began in Philadelphia before coming to Allentown. The tour will also visit Harrisburg, York, Carlisle, Pittsburgh and Erie, Núñez said.
