The largest Latinx group in PA knocked nearly 20,000 doors in Allentown and Reading to turn out Latinx, Black, and young voters
Today, Make the Road Action in Pennsylvania celebrated the elections of three endorsed candidates in Allentown and Reading in the May 17 Democratic primary election:
- Josh Siegel for State Representative – House District 22, Lehigh County
- Rep. Manny Guzman for State Representative – House District 127, Berks County
- Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz for State Representative – House District 129, Berks County
If Cepeda-Freytiz is elected in November’s general election to join Rep. Manny Guzman in the State House, it will be the first time that two Latinos represent Reading—a city where 86% of residents are Latinx—in Harrisburg.
The race for Senate District 14 continues, as less than 100 votes separate Make the Road Action in PA-endorsed Tara Zrinski from Nick Miller, according to unofficial tallies.

Manny Guzman, and Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz as our democratic nominees in Reading and Allentown, knocking nearly 20,000 doors and making thousands of phone calls. And this election isn’t quite over yet, as we’re still watching Tara Zrinski’s extremely close race in SD 14.
“Today we celebrate, and tomorrow our work continues toward victory in November’s general election.
“So much is on the ballot in November. Voters will elect the governor that will set the agenda for reproductive justice in Pennsylvania and choose the Secretary of State to oversee our 2024 presidential election, and we’ll elect our next US Senator. With our rights, democracy, and lives on the line, we are ready to turn up and turn out even more voters for progressive candidates and ensure we can transform the future of the commonwealth so our state works for working people—not just corporations and the wealthy few.”
Said Abrianny Rivas, a first-time voter and member of Make the Road Action in Pennsylvania:
“For me, politics are personal. It’s about what kind of opportunities young people like me will have, what kind of schools we’ll attend, and what kind of planet will be here for us in 30 years. Yesterday, I finally got to cast my first ballot as a voter and helped elect Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz, who I knocked doors for all month long, to be my Democratic nominee to represent Reading. I know that big, meaningful change is possible, we just have to work for it, and I’m so proud to be a part of changing my community and our entire state for good.”
