Master Gardener Events at Historic Archibald Johnston Mansion

Lehigh Valley, Pa – Join the Lehigh Valley Master Gardeners for an in-person tour of the Historic Archibald Johnston Mansion, Bethlehem, to learn about its apples and register for an apple grafting demonstration. 

Archibald Johnston Estate and History of Apples     

There are many apple trees on the premises of the Archibald Johnston Estate. During Archibald Johnston Estate and History of Apples, learn about these trees, the history of apples, cultural and mythological significance, and the most popular varieties planted in the U.S. We will also discuss the life of Bethlehem’s first Mayor, Archibald Johnston, his family, and the history of the mansion.

Apple Grafting Demonstration

Apple Grafting Demonstration is a live demonstration of how to propagate and grow your own apple tree by budding or grafting onto a hardy rootstock. We will be practicing grafting techniques, discussing fruit tree care, and you will take your grafted apple rootstock home with you to be planted!

The Apple Grafting Demonstration is Sunday, April 24, 2022 – 1:00PM to 2:00PM at Historic Archibald Johnston Mansion, 3811 Christian Spring Road, Bethlehem, PA 18020, and the cost is $25.

Gloves will be available but cut gloves from home are recommended. The workshop will be held outside amongst the apple trees in front of the mansion, so dress for the weather.
