(ALLENTOWN, PA) – An anonymous benefactor donated $10,000 to the Allentown Rescue Mission to help homeless men become more employable. The gift, earmarked for vocational training, will pay for classes and the costs associated with the courses, such as classroom supplies and required safety gear.

In November, the first two men to benefit from this donation began Logistics & Forklift training at Lehigh Career & Technical Institute. Both men recently completed the written part of the course and are looking forward to the technical segment.

“This is really good for us. The guys need training programs to accelerate their ability to leave the shelter. Better paying jobs makes it easier to save money, get an apartment, and be able to live on our own,” commented Mark, a recipient of the training and Clean Team Workforce employee.

The Allentown Rescue Mission will continue to match clients with training opportunities as they become available.

“This is an invaluable opportunity to have homeless men change their lives for the better. This generous donation shows how our donors can make an investment in the lives of the men we serve and it also provides these men with hope for a better tomorrow,” stated David Zinni, Program Manager at the Allentown Rescue Mission.

The Allentown Rescue Mission, a 501c3, 123 bed non-profit homeless shelter has been providing shelter for homeless men since 1900. In addition to emergency shelter services (365 days a year), the Allentown Rescue Mission offers a residential life skills program, and transitional employment on the Clean Team Workforce that’s available for hire to the community. The Clean Team Workforce pays the men above PA state minimum wage– helping them save a nest egg to transition back into the community. In a typical year, the Allentown Rescue Mission provides shelter services for over 946 men per year, and serves over 42,000 meals a year to men in need.
