“We’ve told our Pennsylvania Congress members and we’ll tell them again: Don’t come back home until you’ve kept your promises on immigration.”

On Sunday night, the Senate parliamentarian issued a ruling saying the initial pathway to citizenship legislation passed by the House Judiciary Committee (for immigrant youth, TPS holders, and essential workers) cannot be included in the reconciliation package according to Senate procedure rules.

Patty Torres, Organizing Director for Make the Road Pennsylvania, the state’s largest Latinx organizing group, issued the following statement in response to the ruling:

“The budget process is a long one, and we’re still in the beginning. The parliamentarian ruled on one possible way to provide citizenship for millions of immigrants, and now it’s time for Democrats to move forward with other options to finally deliver the pathway to citizenship supported by a majority of Americans.”

115,000 people in Pennsylvania are counting on Congress to get this done, so they can finally become citizens, reunite with their families, and get access to better jobs, health insurance, and drivers licenses. We remain committed to and confident in winning a pathway to citizenship for millions this year. We’ve told our Pennsylvania Congress members and we’ll tell them again: Don’t come back home until you’ve kept your promises on immigration.”
