WDIY Welcomes New and Returning Board Members

(Lehigh Valley, PA) – The Lehigh Valley public radio station and NPR station, WDIY, recently elected the following individuals to its Board of Directors; they will serve two-year terms with the possibility for re-election:

Pat Ojea is a recently retired Rutgers University instructor, a position she held for over 30 years. She was also a volunteer and mentor in a city planning capacity. Pat has been a volunteer at WDIY since 2015, having previously served on the station’s Community Advisory Board.

Doug Dopp is currently the Director of Manufacturing at Broadcom’s Breinigsville, PA site. The Allentown resident has been a supporter of WDIY since moving to the Lehigh Valley in 2015. He has volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Ben Franklin Technology Partners as well as serving on WDIY’s Community Advisory Board from 2019 to 2020.

Jason Stershic has lived and worked in the Lehigh Valley since graduating from Keystone College in 2004. He has worked for Discover Lehigh Valley, Lehigh Valley I.T. Solutions, and as a consultant as the sole proprietor of Spectyr Media. He is better known online as Agent Palmer. He created the digital space to fine-tune his content creation and promotional skills. He publishes weekly blogs for Agent Palmer and fortnightly podcasts for The Palmer Files.

Joan B. Marcus is president of Joan B. Marcus Communications LLC, which works with nonprofits and businesses to help them build their brand through memorable core messages and strategically placed content. She writes federal, state and foundation grant proposals and has secured more than $14 million in funding. She is the author of the book, To Better Your Best.

The following individuals returned to the WDIY board after a short absence:

Don Miles is an environmental lawyer and chairman of the Lehigh Valley Sierra Club. He began volunteering for WDIY in 2006 and is the host for Friday’s edition of NPR’s All Things Considered.

John Dodds is a retired Director of Brand and Marketing Communications for Air Products and Chemicals. He currently hosts the Tuesday evening jazz program, Doodlin’, once per month on WDIY. Dodds developed his passion for radio by listening to the early offshore radio stations floating off the Essex Coast of England and the BBC in the 1960s.

Brian Landers is a retiree from Air Products and Chemicals, long time radio listener and former host of Celtic Faire, WDIY’s weekly Thursday evening show dedicated to Celtic music. He contributed to the formation and subsequent first decade of operation of WDIY (1995 – 2005).

Karen El-Chaar currently serves on the Board of Directors as secretary, is the Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation for the City of Allentown and is an Assistant Professor at Cedar Crest College. Karen is the Friday host of WDIY Classics and a fill-in host for WDIY’s jazz programs.

Rick Weaver currently serves on the Board of Directors as Member Representative. He is a Lehigh Valley-based musician and songwriter in the band Piper’s Request. Rick is the current host of Celtic Faire on WDIY.
