Bethlehem, PA | Friday, February 26th, 2021- Leading affordable housing organization, Habitat for Humanity of the Lehigh Valley, is breaking ground on a new home construction project in Bethlehem. A formal groundbreaking ceremony, including local dignitaries, Habitat staff, volunteers, and Habitat families will take place on February, 26th.
This project will include the construction of a twin home on the 600 block of William St in South Bethlehem, Northampton County. Habitat Lehigh Valley construction staff, core construction volunteers, corporate and faith build groups, and Habitat Lehigh Valley families expect to complete the project over the next eighteen months to two years. The homes will provide safe and stable housing for hardworking, low-income families in the Lehigh Valley.
Each Habitat homebuyer partners with Habitat Lehigh Valley to complete a minimum of 250 sweat equity hours per adult dedicated to the construction of their own home and the homes of their Habitat neighbors. For these future homeowners, owning a safe and decent home will allow them the financial freedom to invest in healthcare, education, and savings for a stable future.
This project is funded by the following sponsors, including the City of Bethlehem, Thrivent Financial, Northampton County, Wells Fargo, TD Bank, Renewal by Andersen of Northeast PA, and the Elmore Family. One of the two homes will be the 2021 Thrivent Faith Build home and will be partially funded and constructed by local churches and faith groups.
Applications are currently available for future homebuyers wishing to be assigned to these or other homes in the Habitat Lehigh Valley organization.
