Free event for ages 6+ aims to share visions of the future

BETHLEHEM, PA – ArtsQuest is calling on all filmmakers – from age 6 and up and of any experience level – to participate in the “Looking Forward” 48 Hour Film Challenge, to be held over the weekend of Jan. 29-31 and culminating with a digital broadcast on Thurs., Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. There is no cost to participate; anyone interested can register at steelstacks.org/film. Submitted films are to be 3-5 minutes long and made in accordance with all CDC guidelines to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

 

The “Looking Forward” 48 Hour Film Challenge – the third such filmmaker challenge ArtsQuest has produced – will start on Fri., Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m. with a Zoom call for all participants wherein specific rules will be set forth and any questions answered. Each participant will then be e-mailed with unique individual prompts, which could include a specific prop that must be used and/or line of dialogue that must be said. Participants will then have until Sun., Jan. 31 at 7:59 p.m. to upload their finished movie.

Submissions will be divided into four categories: individuals aged 6-12, 13-17, 18 and older, and families, the latter meant to reference a group of related people of varying ages residing in the same house. Best in Show awards will be given out to one film in each category, along with other awards to be determined.

“Last April’s 48-Hour Quarantine Challenge was a major success and met with great enthusiasm at a time when things were so uncertain. You could feel the passion in every film 100%,” said Anthony DeSanctis, ArtsQuest’s Cinema and Comedy Specialist and Director of the Greater Lehigh Valley Filmmaker Festival (GLVFF). “Now, with all the promise and potential that 2021 brings, this felt like the right time for another Challenge… and with a bit more optimism! We want to give the great people of the Lehigh Valley an opportunity to express themselves and show us their interpretations of what ‘looking forward’ means to them.”

ArtsQuest’s 48-Hour Quarantine Film Challenge, produced last spring, had 80 registrants. A pre-pandemic version of the 48-Hour Film Challenge was produced as part of the InVision Photo Festival. The 48-Hour Film Challenge is an ArtsQuest program produced by the organization’s Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas, a two-screen independent cinema located at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks at 101 Founder’s Way in Bethlehem, which is currently open for private rentals and considering re-opening for public screenings in mid-February of 2021.
