Local Museums, Historical Societies to host Lehigh Valley Passport to History Weekend

LEHIGH VALLEY (July 28, 2019) – On Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, local historical sites are partnering to host Lehigh Valley Passport to History Weekend. The weekend is a celebration of local history, stories, and the community that bring Lehigh Valley history to life. Participating locations will open their doors to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with free admission, tours, activities, and programs for visitors of all ages.

 

“The Lehigh Valley Passport to History group is proud to present our second annual Passport to History weekend!” said Carey Birgel, Executive Director of the Northampton County Historical and Genealogical Society and Sigal Museum. “2020 has been a difficult year for everyone including our museums and historic sites in the community. We are eager to welcome visitors to safely enjoy a weekend of family activities, tours, and programs. Let’s celebrate art, history, and culture in our community together while supporting our area museums.”

 

To date, participating locations include:
  • 1803 House in Emmaus
  • Durham Historical Society in Durham Township of Bucks County
  • Forks Township Historical Society in Forks Township
  • Historic Bethlehem Museums and Sites in Bethlehem
  • Historic Easton Cemetery in Easton
  • Horner’s Cemetery Historical Society in Northampton
  • Jacobsburg Historical Society in Nazareth
  • Lower Macungie Township Historical Society in Emmaus
  • Moravian Historical Society in Nazareth
  • National Canal Museum in Easton
  • National Museum of Industrial History in Bethlehem
  • Northampton County Historical and Genealogical Society/Sigal Museum in Easton
  • The Shelter House in Emmaus
  • Slate Belt Heritage Center in Bangor
  • Whitehall Historical Preservation Society in Whitehall
  • Williams Township Historical Society in Easton

 

Lehigh Valley Passport to History sites are following CDC and state health guidelines to ensure safety for their visitors, including limiting crowds, practicing social distancing and requiring masks during visits. Increased sanitation protocols are also in place, including the addition of hand sanitizing stations.
