June 14-21, 2020 – The Allentown Art Museum is marking the beginning of summer and the end of the school year with a weeklong #ChalkYourWalk campaign and contest to encourage residents to create colorful positive messages and chalk art outside of their home!
To kick things off the Museum is holding a sidewalk-chalk giveaway this Sunday, June 14, from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. (or until the chalk is gone, first come first served). The pickup will happen in front of the Museum—just drive up or walk up—on Fifth Street, rain or shine. Supplies are limited, one set of colored chalk per car/family. Museum staff will be wearing masks and gloves; please wear a mask to pick up. Chalk provided by Crayola.
Also on Sunday, artists Barnaby Ruhe, Urszula Abolik, Rosemary Geseck, and a crew from the Alternative Gallery will be outside the Museum to inspire others with their chalk art that will be created live onsite. Music will be provided by the Alternative Gallery.
For the rest of next week, through June 21, the Museum will be watching social media for photos of local chalk artwork tagged with @AtownArtMuseum or #AAMChalkYourWalk, or entrants can send a direct message to the Museum’s Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter pages. (Note that the Museum will not be able to see submissions if one’s profile is private.) One #ChalkYourWalk participant will receive a gift art basket from the Museum.
